Review in the 145th Combat Aviation Battalion Association in U.S.A.

So judging from the questionnaire we should have another reunion in Aug. 1987 privately with just our Battalion. I would like for you to fill out the enclosed questionnaire and return it as soon as possible. And if for some reason you won't be able to attend please fill out the questionnaire and return it anyway. And please put reason (if possible) that you may not be able to attend on the back, maybe someone in our association or the association may be able to assist you attend.

I would like to suggest the 2nd week-end 7,8,9 Aug. 1987 here in Ft. Wayne, but that's up to you.

I will update the reunion questionnaire info in the Dec. Association newsletter so join the association right away and return the questionnaire preferably before Nov. 10, 1086. If you want to order a reunion book do so right away! The more orders the lower the price. And the same hold true for the reunion expenses the more people attending the lower the cost per person for entertainment and meeting room, hotel room and dinners.

One other thing I need is information, collectively we have a lot of the history of the Battalion out there. Please send me any information you can, names, dates, events. Dig through your old papers and your memory, send me anything you can. Make my mailman suffer, lets see how heavy a load he can carry . If you know or can guess at the location of anyone who served with the 145 CAB send me their names. Now is the time for action, now we can really started on building an association with our brothers from the 145th CAB and their families. Please fill out the questionnaire, join the association and send me all the information you can.

Thank you

Now for the review of Brian Wizard's book

Title....Permission To Kill

Author...Brian Wizard

Publisher...The Starquill Publisher P.O. Box 6 Port Douglas, North Queensland Australia 4871

ISBN#....0-949702-01-3

The book starts out back in the "World" with Willard B. Maykett, out of high school, and with a job he hates. Willie is bored. He'd like something to do. Willie joins the Army.

After basic and A.I.T., Willie finds himself in Vietnam, action and excitement all around him, but not for Willie. Willie is stuck in a building relining breakshoes, this is as bad as his job back in "The World". Willie finally finds his way out, volunteer to be a doorgunner, Willie transfers.

Willie goes to the 181th AHC (really the 118th AHC) the Thunderhawk's (Thunderbird's) out of the Birds Nest at Bien Hoa.

Then through the next 405 pages Willie takes me along with him on his tour in Vietnam. I smell the smells, see the sights, revisit very familiar places. I feel the excitement, the anguish, the terror, and the amusement.

In the last fifteen years I have read very few books, they don't hold my interest. This one does! This one tells of places I have been to and of times in my life. Changing times in my life when each day was filled with new and exciting things.

I would recommend this book to all of you. This book is not for the whole family. I would give parts of it an X-rating. but it is factual and very descriptive.

Ask your local bookstore to order it for you and to keep some on display.
